Bidhannagar police find missing boy's parents through search in brick kilns

At a time when the role of police officers is under scrutiny when it comes to missing children, the Rajarhat police of Bidhannagar Commissionerate traced the child's parents after they found him wandering in the market on Wednesday.

Police said they found the six-year-old boy crying Wednesday night and were looking for his parents and brought him to the police station. However, the boy could not tell the police his address and could only tell his parents' first names and a place called Manoharpur.

"The boy doesn't understand much Bengali and could only pronounce certain names. There is a place called Manoharpur in Dankuni and we looked there but there was no complaint. There was no complaint at the nearby police stations," he said. officer. Unable to trace the boy's parents till Wednesday night, police sought the help of the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights (WBCPCR), which kept the child in a safe home while police continued their search.

"By Thursday morning, we searched more and found that some Hindi-speaking migrant workers were working in brick kilns in Rajarhat, about 2 km from where the boy was found. We went to the kilns and found that the child was indeed missing. And the parents' first names also matched. We showed the boy's photograph to the parents, who identified him," said the police officer.

The parents told police that the boy's mother was berating the boy on Wednesday. They suspect he ran away and got lost. They said they are from Jharkhand and don't know what to do if they can't find him. Police said the boy is still in a safe home and will be handed over to his parents on Monday in the presence and as directed by the relevant authorities.
